Grant Opportunity: Free Bear-Resistant Trash Enclosures Available for University Hill Properties
If you own rental property in the University Hill area, you may qualify for a grant-funded bear-resistant trash enclosure at little to no cost.
Through the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Human-Bear Conflict Reduction Grant, the Boulder Bear Coalition is working to reduce conflicts between bears and trash by installing attractive, durable trash enclosures that keep bears out while maintaining easy access for trash collection. Western Disposal has coordinated with the program and will open the enclosure during regular trash pickup, making the process seamless for property owners.
The current grant provides up to $4,000 per enclosure, and funding is available for three additional properties in the next phase of the project.
Several University Hill property owners have already participated in the program and have found the enclosures to be an effective solution for protecting their properties, reducing bear activity, and helping keep neighborhoods safer for both residents and wildlife.
