Boulder County Offering Rebate for Fire Mitigation of Properties

Jennifer Crowell | Published on 7/1/2024
Boulder County had launched a rebate that offers $500 for fire mitigation.  The rebate program is open to all Boulder County residents, including all municipalities and the City of Boulder, who own or rent a home in Boulder County to which the eligible wildfire mitigation actions apply. You must apply by October 31, 2024.

Using a rebate for fire mitigation can be advantageous for several reasons:

  1. Cost Savings: Fire mitigation measures such as clearing brush, creating defensible spaces around your property, or upgrading to fire-resistant building materials can be expensive. Rebates help offset these costs, making it more financially feasible to undertake these protective measures.

  2. Insurance Premium Reduction: Some insurance companies offer discounts or reduced premiums for properties that have implemented fire mitigation measures. By using rebates to fund these improvements, you could potentially save money in the long run on insurance costs.

  3. Safety and Protection: Fire mitigation measures reduce the risk of your property being damaged or destroyed by wildfires. This not only protects your home and belongings but also contributes to the safety of your family and community.

  4. Community Benefits: By implementing fire mitigation measures, you contribute to the overall resilience of your community against wildfires. This can have broader benefits such as reducing the spread of fires and protecting neighboring properties.

Funding for the program comes from a 0.1% sales and use tax that was passed by voters for wildfire mitigation efforts in 2022.
