Advocacy - City Approves New Trash/Recycling Program.
BARHA helps shape the program!
Boulder's trash/recycling program bundles required recycling services as a percentage of the trash service. It also allows all recyclables to now be put into one container-no need to sort into two different containers as in the past. This is a good thing as it will mean fewer containers on site, although the one container needs to be larger than previous two.
Single family homes must provide a composting container for yard organics and food waste/organics.
Multi-unit properties are NOT required to provide composting service.
BARHA worked with the city and argued that such a program would create major problems for multi-family. We appreciate that the city decision makers listened and agreed with our position. Such a composting requirement on multi-family would have been an enforcement/management nightmare and we believe that it would have also been a huge enticement to all sorts of animals including dogs. skunks, raccoons, rats--- you name it!
Once again, BARHA was in the discussion representing the best interests of our members.
